Seven lucky travel agents from New Zealand have this week toured throughout the entire Sunshine Coast region experiencing balmy temperatures and a warm welcome from local tourism operators.

Coordinated and hosted by Visit Sunshine Coast (VSC), the travel consultants visiting the area from 14 – 19 February, won a prize to spend a week in the region following VSC’s trade mission to New Zealand last October.

VSC CEO, Simon Ambrose said the visit is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Sunshine Coast region to key travel representatives.

“Holding a mission in New Zealand was a great opportunity for the Sunshine Coast and allowed us to meet with over 200 travel agents. As an extension of this activity, hosting this visit allows the agents to experience our region first hand.

“We know that our beaches, wildlife, selection of produce and climate are a perfect match with New Zealand visitors, and as part of this trip we are able to showcase the natural assets that we have on offer, along with new products.”

Emma Bryant of House of Travel Papamoa said, this visit kept her up to date with what the region can offer clients.

“I have never been to the Sunshine Coast and this trip allowed me to explore areas that I am not familiar with.(left to right) back row – Nicola Lynch (House of Travel Wanganui), Melissa Cox (Fielding United Travel) front row – Tali Naucabalavu (House of Travel Botany), Kate Wright (Visit Sunshine Coast) Shereen Booysen (United Travel Katikati), Hope Collings (House of Travel product), Misty Bonnett (House of Travel product) and Emma Bryant (House of Travel Papamoa) at Mooloolaba Beach.

“This visit has shown me how relaxing the Sunshine Coast is and will improve my selling skills by experiencing a diversity of tourism experiences.”

“The highlight was exploring all the different regions from the hinterland and up along the coast from Caloundra to Rainbow Beach. I didn’t know there were so many exciting tours and attractions like Aussie World and Big Kart Track.”

Ferre De Deyne, Managing Director of Big Kart Track hosted the group during their stay.

“This type of opportunity is invaluable for agents to come and experience the thrills of our track and the Sunshine Coast. New Zealand is a core market for the region and working with Visit Sunshine Coast, we want to be part of attracting more international visitors to our attraction.”

Some of the group experiences in the region included:
• The Great Beach Drive with Surf and Sand Safaris
• Seeing native wildlife at Australia Zoo
• A race around the track at Big Kart Track
• A cruise in the Noosa Everglades with The Discovery Group
• Unlimited rides in the park at Aussie World
