Today is all about loosening your belt after Christmas lunch, hitting the Plaza for a bargain, or kicking back to the sound of cricket or one of my favourites – watching the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Whatever, you are doing it is good time to reflect on the year that has passed. And what a year it has been! Our tourism and event tray tables were locked away and seats were in the upright position for much of the 2017, but now the wheels are down and we can hopefully land a break.

However, not for the hundreds of Sunshine Coast tourism businesses and staff who are kept busy during the summer holiday season. It is a time where things get busier around the region and I would encourage everyone to have fun, but remember to be safe and show a little extra patience.

Whether it is swimming between the red and yellow flags or allowing extra time for travel and parking; we want everyone to have a good time with family, friends and pets.

Locals and visitors can enjoy the fantastic New Year’s Eve celebrations on the Sunshine Coast. The best places to play and party include:

  • Coolum Beach Hotel
  • Imperial Hotel Eumundi
  • Kings Beach Amphitheatre and Lions Park, Caloundra
  • Nelson Reserve, Gympie
  • Noosa Marina and Noosa Main Beach
  • Mooloolaba Surf Club
  • Novotel Twin Waters Resort
  • The Esplanade, Mooloolaba
  • Tickle Park, Coolum Beach
  • Whale One New Year’s Eve Cruise
  • Woodford Folk Festival

Whatever you are planning, I wish you a Happy New Year and together with my team, we look forward to continuing to work with the community and tourism businesses in 2018 to create excellent service and experiences for our national and international visitors.
