Tomorrow, we (Visit Sunshine Coast) and Air New Zealand will launch an integrated multi-media campaign to attract chilled Kiwis across the ‘ditch’ to experience a warm change on the Sunshine Coast.

The campaign will run through to early July when direct flights from Auckland to Sunshine Coast Airport will commence. The campaign encourages Kiwis to swap their beanies for sunhats and boots for jandals as they lap up the mid-20C temperatures typical of the Sunshine Coast over ‘winter’.

The Air New Zealand campaign highlights the fact that New Zealand travellers can depart Auckland in the morning and be dipping their toes in the famed Sunshine Coast beaches by lunchtime.

A series of informative blogs have been developed highlighting the diversity of attractions available across the Sunshine Coast region. They cover ‘10 of the Best’ beaches, adventure experiences, food and arts, and festivals – such as Velothon, the Queensland Garden Expo, Gympie Muster, Caloundra Music Festival, the Sunshine Coast Horizon Arts Festival and the Noosa Triathlon – taking place over the next five months.

The campaign is being promoted across various media channels and on Air New Zealand’s website, using video and other promotional tools.

The direct flights from Auckland have been a great success for the Sunshine Coast over the past six years, with a record 65,000 Kiwis visiting the Sunshine Coast in 2017.

For many New Zealanders, the Sunshine Coast is now a ‘second home’ because our warm climate and laid-back atmosphere makes it a very attractive alternative to their chilly local winters.

Ultimately, with the development of our new airport, we’d like to see the start of year-round direct flights from Auckland and other ports across New Zealand. With our rich calendar of events and our wide range of attractions we offer plenty of reasons for Kiwis to return regularly to the Sunshine Coast.

Air New Zealand flies direct from Auckland to Sunshine Coast from 6 July to 28 October, 2018.
