A locals-only campaign giving Sunshine Coast residents the chance to experience their own backyard at “mates’ rates” is continuing during March.

Visit Sunshine Coast (VSC) launched Sunny Staycation in February as a way for the tourism industry to give back to the community that supports it.

Made by locals, for locals, the campaign has already attracted more than 17,000 people keen to check out over 40 epic deals from local operators.

Deals range from 25 to 50 per cent off Sunshine Coast experiences, accommodation, dining and attractions.

VSC CEO Matt Stoeckel said locals are making the most of the Sunny Staycation deals.

“We’re loving seeing the community get behind Sunny Staycation and jump at the chance to enjoy mates’ rates right across the region,” Mr Stoeckel said.

“It’s a great chance for Sunny Coast locals to finally visit the attraction you always drive past or try somewhere you’ve been meaning to check out for ages.

“Our locals love the water, with Coastal Cruises Mooloolaba, Noosa Ferry and Mooloolaba Ferry among the most popular deals.

“Sunreef, TreeTop Challenge, Sea Life and AquaDuck have also been popular picks.”

Sunny Staycation runs during the tourism industry’s off-peak season ahead of the Easter school holidays, making it an ideal time for locals to explore the region.

“My family loved the two-for-one entry at Hologram Zoo Sunshine Coast and it’s great to hear stories of others out and about enjoying what’s on offer,” he said.

Sunshine Coast local Olive Bringans booked a seafood lunch with Coastal Cruises Mooloolaba for 50 members of her Probus Club after hearing about Sunny Staycation.

“I’m the activities officer at my local Probus Club and when I heard about the deals I thought it was a really decent discount for our members to enjoy the region,” she said.

“I immediately jumped on it and booked as it gives our members a chance to see a part of the Coast they may not have seen before.”

Aussie World’s Sebastian Hahn said its $109 annual pass, released as part of the campaign, had been a hit with locals.

“Sunny Staycation is a fantastic initiative from Visit Sunshine Coast that shines a spotlight on the amazing experiences we have right here on the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Hahn said.

“Aussie World is proud to be part of a campaign that encourages locals to support local and enjoy everything our region has to offer.

“Our UNREAL Annual Pass sale was a huge success and we can’t wait to welcome all of our new annual pass holders to Aussie World for a full year of unreal fun.”

Visit Sunshine Coast is the peak tourism body for the Sunshine Coast region, covering the Sunshine Coast, Gympie and Noosa local government areas.
