An increasing number of travellers are packing their suit alongside a pair of boardshorts to combine business with leisure on the Sunshine Coast.

Attracting business events and national conferences to the region plays an important role in local tourism.

Not only do they appeal to a different market of visitors, a major benefit is they often provide a welcome mid-week boost for accommodation providers and local businesses.

In the past few weeks it was announced two national conferences will be held on the Sunshine Coast in 2019, bringing more than 750 delegates to the region as well as national and international guest speakers.

The first event is The Performing Arts Conference (PAC) and the National Performing Arts Exchange (PAX), to be held at The Events Centre Caloundra from 25-29 August 2019 to coincide with the multi-arts Horizon Festival.

The PAC and PAX event is a major win for Business Events Sunshine Coast (BESC), a division of Visit Sunshine Coast, who helped secure the event for the region through their Business Events Assistance Program, supported by Sunshine Coast Council.

The Program offers funding support for business events that have potential to be held on the Sunshine Coast and that meet select criteria, including attracting a minimum of 75 per cent of delegates from outside the Sunshine Coast region.

The second event announced was the National Clean Technologies Conference & Exhibition, to be held from 29-31 May 2019 at The Events Centre Caloundra, with Sunshine Coast Council as principal event partner.

The three-day event will feature more than 70 keynote and industry speakers and 50 exhibitors, with opportunities for local businesses to get involved.

The national conferences come off the back of the Australian Event Awards and Symposium, supported by BESC, which will be held for the third and final year on the Sunshine Coast later this month.

The national event brings delegates from across Australia and Queensland for three days of workshops and exhibitions before the final Events Awards Ceremony, which will be held this year at Novotel Twin Waters Resort on 21 November.
